Line development and propagation

Most large multinational forestry companies have invested years, even decades, of time and money in improving the genetic quality of their trees. With CellFor's mass propagation Somatic embryogenesis

technology, that investment can be fully captured and deployed in forest plantations.

But it's not just the multinationals who can benefit from our business model. We work closely with smaller forest products companies as well as groups of companies interested in improving the genetic quality of their seed.

The bottom line for us is your success. We're focused on helping your business grow.

To achieve that goal, our forestry experts work closely with you to understand every facet of your business. From existing seed supply and end product mix to your long-term goals and needs. Together, we establish targets and goals that will have a direct and measurable impact on your bottom line.

Here are the steps to attaining that goal:

Step #1: Identifying your goals and how best to attain them.
We're committed to helping your business succeed in a measurable and tangible way. We measure our success against a set of clearly established objectives and goals.

That's why our first step with every new propagation customer is a "Memorandum of Understanding", or "MOU". This is a document that clearly spells out the objectives and goals of our partnership, along with the resource allocation required from each of us. While this isn't intended to be a legally binding document, it provides a crucial framework for a strong, fruitful and lasting partnership.

Here are the key elements you can expect to find in an MOU:

  1. A Definition of Purpose. A clearly defined and mutually understood purpose statement is a vital first step to assuring a well coordinated effort in attaining your goals and objectives.
  2. Statement of Objectives. Working closely with your organization, we develop a thorough outline of your goals for deployment of your somatic seedlings.
  3. Roles and Responsibilities. We define the team of managers who will be responsible for every step of the process - both in your organization, and in ours.
  4. Term. Given the timeline associated with product development, field trials and data gathering, most MOU's are 5 year agreements.
  5. Activity Components.
    1. Information Sharing. As your partners, we need to understand your business, and you need to understand ours. This includes information about our technology, our processes, and our performance systems and your forestry, tree improvement and testing information.
    2. R&D Trials. Together, we specify the required product testing and pilot delivery systems that are best suited to your specific project.
    3. Seed Development. We outline the scope and timing involved in establishing embryogenic Lines
When used in the context of plant propagation, the term refers to a collection of plants produced asexually either from a single plant or part of a plant. They have the exact same genetic make-up.
      and conducting field tests.
  6. Mass Supply Agreement. This is the binding document that outlines the production requirements for the project following the field testing phase. Most of our supply agreements start small, and grow in volume as the results of the field tests become clear. These agreements tend to have terms of 3 to 5 years.
  7. 3rd Party Sales. CellFor is building a seed company. This section of the MOU provides us with the opportunity to market your seed to third parties, at your option, and generate additional value to both partners. This section clearly defines the terms and conditions of selling seeds and seedlings from the program to third parties.
  8. Confidentiality and other provisions. We're committed to serving and protecting our clients. That includes safeguarding and protecting your company's proprietary information and rights.

Step #2: The Development and Testing of Seed Lines
Once our partnership has been defined, and our goals, systems and procedures have been clearly outlined, we move on to the creation and deployment of a seed development and testing program.

Ultimately, this will result in the development of high performance somatic seedlings for your forest plantation.

Step #3: The Pilot Production
During the product development phase, pilot production allows us to ensure that CellFor's product is properly delivered and integrated into your nursery operations. Moreover, this stage allows us to assess the resulting somatic seedlings on a variety of sites at an operational scale.

The successful development and selection of seed lines, together with successful pilot production, ensure that the performance criteria in the MOU are met.

Step #4: The Mass Production
Once the performance criteria have clearly been met, we enter into commercial production of your somatic seedlings, followed by rapid deployment of the somatic seeds into your plantations and forests.
